Interior Painting

Interior Painting can refer to most fixtures and items within your property. Painting the walls, ceiling, floors, stairs, window frames, doors, door frames, hand rails or skirting boards of your property can transform the entire room.

Interior Painting is said to be the simplest of property maintenance tasks as well as the most rewarding. Your property can be transformed with minimum amount of work and time.

When Interior Painting is being undertaken, everything, such as, curtains, fixtures and furnishings should be removed from the room and dustsheets are needed to be placed over floors and surfaces.

When it comes to Interior Painting, preparing the surface for the paint is highly important as incorrect preparation can lead to a multitude of problems. You can paint almost anything if you properly prepare the surface. To do this you should:

  • Check for loose putty - this mainly concerns painting near window frames. If you do find that there is loose putty you should replace it straight away
  • Use a wire brush - a wire brush or power sander should be used to clean the surface down. This removes grime and any loose paint that is on the surface from a previous paint job
  • Fill in cracks - this should be done with putty that has a paste texture and must be left to dry thoroughly before paint is placed over the top of it

If these preparations are not carried out how they should be you could be facing problems such as blistering, which refers to a bubble formation in the dried paint, this happens when the paint film is lifted from the underlying surface. The main causes of this blistering is damp conditions, if the surface hasn't been left to dry properly and also due to the use of solvent based paint.

Poor Sheen Uniformity is another problem that can arise during your property maintenance is the surface is not prepared correctly. This is when shiny or dull spots appear on a painted surface creating an uneven gloss. The main reasons behind this is an uneven spread rate and failure to properly prime the surface.

One last problem that you could be left facing is Sealant Failures, which is the result of the loss of the sealants initial adhesion and flexibility, which ends up making the paint crack and pull away from the surface that it is applied to. This could be the result of the wrong sealant type as well as incorrect preparation of the surface.
