A kitchen is a very personal thing, the size isn't always important. If you are a small family then a small kitchen is probably good enough. In particular cutting up food and handling cooked food. Granite work surfaces are ideal because they can withstand high temperatures, which will allow you to put hot food onto them.

Keep Utensils, Cookware Handy To Work Area

When you are remodeling your kitchen you should be sure to create a place for your utensils that is close to the preparation area in your kitchen. This saves you walking about a lot, and also makes it much easier if two people wanted to cook together. You should also locate any cookware and utensils used in cooking next to the stove so that it's all close to hand. You don't want to have to run over the other side of the kitchen to get a pan, you want to be able to reach out and get whatever you need!
