Lying to the north of Walsall Clayhanger is one of the oldest settlements in the area with a history going back 600 years.
The name Clayhanger comes from a Anglo-Saxon word meaning 'a slope on clayey soil', although there is no slope now as Clayhanger is an area of rough drained pasture land which is quite flat.
Clayhanger is steeped in history and still has many buildings that date back to the 1800Â’s, one such building is the George and Dragon. This is ClayhangerÂ’s oldest pub and has been on the site it is situated since 1871.
The Neighbouring areas surrounding Clayhanger include Burntwood, Aldridge, Pelsall and Shelfied. Unlike its neighbours however Clayhanger grew as a village very slowly and has always been somewhat isolated from the surrounding towns and villages.
As previously mentioned a lot of the buildings in Clayhanger are relatively old and as a result of this many of ClayhangerÂ’s residents may be in need of some property renovation. Thankfully for the residents of Clayhanger help is at hand from
