Consider Painting Contractors for Your Next Project

For most people, painting seems like a relatively simple task - one that we can easily do ourselves - and save money. Yet once you start painting, you often find that you need to sand or prime first, the window treatments are a bear, it ends up taking much more time than expected, and you notice all the little splatters and mistakes. Not as easy as you thought! Next time you are thinking about painting, consider hiring painting contractors, and have it done quickly and professionally.

Painting contractors can cost extra money, but for a good reason – they are experts in paint, application, preparation, and finishing. They can complete a painting project in half the time of most people, and come up with a gorgeous and expert finish that looks great, and lasts.

If you are thinking of painting the inside or outside of you home, or have other painting needs, take time to look for a painting contractor, and at least get an estimate for their services. Painting contractors can often look at your home, interior or exterior, and make suggestions on color, texturing, and new design finishes that you may not have thought of (or that are new on the market). A contractor can also suggest the best and longest lasting type of paint to use based on lifestyle and climate.

If you are thinking of hiring painting contractors, consider a few pointers:

• Ask friends, neighbors, and co-workers for recommendations, so you know that the contractor is reputable and experienced.

• Make sure the contractor is licensed and bonded.

• Ask the contractor for references, and ask to see some of their completed work at other locations.

• Ask about guarantees, and get them in writing.

• Check with your local Better Business Bureau to make sure the contractor is in good standing.

• Make sure you get a free estimate in writing, before work starts. Check to see that all services (such as prep work) are included and all areas you want completed are listed in the estimate before work starts.

• Meet with the painting contractors who will be doing the work or overseeing the job, and make sure you are comfortable with them.

• Don't pay all of the money up front. Some contractors will ask for a percentage of the total as the project is completed in stages, especially if they don't know you. Others will bill you after the project has been completed. Don't pay the entire bill until the project has been completed to your satisfaction.

It doesn't hurt to do some cost comparisons, or to try and negotiate a better price if you think an estimate is too high. Shopping and comparing can give you a better understanding of what the local market is for painting services, and can give you some negotiating power when talking about costs. Remember that cheaper is not always better. Some painting contractors may try to cut corners to save a few dollars.

If you want your next painting project to be finished quickly, and to have those extra finishing touches that make your home look wonderful, consider painting contractors. They can make your next painting project much more enjoyable, without the stress of doing-it-yourself.
